Online Counselling for Couples Living Abroad

Relationship Support for Expat & Long-Distance Couples

Relocation changes routines, expectations, and how partners relate to each other. Many couples notice tension, distance, or repeated conflict after a move. Others feel unsure how to talk about what has shifted. These reactions are common and often appear even when the move has been positive in other ways.

If you and your partner feel less connected, more frustrated, or unsure how to support each other, couples therapy can help you understand what is happening and what you both need.

Relationships are rarely simple. Living abroad often adds extra pressure.

Living overseas can influence a relationship in ways that catch people off guard. Common challenges include:

• Difficulty communicating about needs, expectations, or stress
• Growing distance or a sense of being on different paths
• Repeated arguments that feel draining or unresolved
• Changes in roles or responsibilities that feel unequal
• Pressure from work, children, or cultural adjustment
• Loss of familiar support from friends or family
• A feeling that the relationship has changed since the move

These experiences are normal for many expat and long-distance couples. Talking about them with a professional therapist can help you understand each other more clearly.

What to expect from couples therapy

A clear starting point

Your first call helps me understand your concerns, what you want to improve, and whether this service is a good fit for both partners.

Online sessions

Sessions are held online, which makes it possible for both partners to attend even if travel or work results in changing schedules.

A respectful, balanced approach

Both partners are involved. I take time to understand each person’s perspective without blame. Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method are used to support couples communication, conflict resolution and emotional connection.

Consistent support

Most couples attend weekly or fortnightly. Ongoing sessions are 55 minutes and focus on communication, understanding, and practical steps you can apply between sessions.
